Lo’s Low Down: 5 Tips on Becoming a Successful Entrepreneur

Updated: May 7, 2021

So, let me introduce you to the ultimate SuperWoman in my circle -- Lauren “Lo” Nicely! As the daughter of two Caribbean-born parents, this beautiful first-generation American is a professional makeup artist, beauty and lifestyle influencer, friend, teacher, woman of faith, esthetician and skin care professional!

Lo’s Story

In 2008, Lauren got stood up by her prom makeup artist. She soon became curious about how to do her own makeup! After graduating high school, Lo took all of her gifted money to buy makeup materials!

While in college, make up artistry became her side hustle. Due to a family tragedy, she took a gap year from college. From then, her passion for makeup only became stronger. Upon her college graduation, she made a commitment to herself. She told herself: "I will give myself one year to really go for it with makeup and see where it takes me!"

In that one year, Lo increased her follower count on all social media platforms, got an LLC, began traveling for work, taught classes, and set up a studio in her parents’ home! Seven years later, she's now a professional make up artist and a newly licensed esthetician. Studio and all!

Wanna be a successful entrepreneur just like Lo?

Well...Let me pass the mic to Lo so she can give you the lowdown with her 5 BEST ENTREPRENEURSHIP TIPS!

Alright, let's get down to it!

#1 - Soak Up As Much As You Can!

Thankfully, we are in such a digital age, so there’s so much information out there -- courses, training and even mentorship! So, whatever passion you have, I encourage you to soak up all you can about the subject and then give it the old honest try!

I mean… once I got stood up by my prom makeup artist, I was watching YouTube tutorials day in and day out to learn how to do my own makeup and refused to stop there. After I learned and tested the waters enough, I had to go out on a limb and give it a try as well!

#2 - Reach Out To Your Friends!

When trying to grow in your passions include your friends in the process! Some of my very first makeup models were my friends, including the one and only Tamara Jade! ❤️

#3 - Surround Yourself with Fellow Entrepreneurs

If you align yourself with friends who are also entrepreneurs, you have a safe space when it’s time to vent, brainstorm ideas, and even hash out time for your passion projects! For me, this can turn into a 5 hour discussion REAL FAST!

#4 - Once you say you’re gonna do it, GET IT DONE!

A year ago, I said,

“One day I am going to esthetics school! One day I will open up my studio. I’m gonna be waxing, doing facials, doing brows. IT’S GONNA HAPPEN!”

Guess what?! It HAPPENED!!! It’s HERE. I can touch it and I can feel it! Talk about MANIFESTATION!

So, I would encourage you all to speak your dreams into existence, plan out actionable steps to reach it, and then EXECUTE it!

#5 - Get your business ONLINE & VIRTUAL!

Back in the day, people could find your business in a yellow phonebook, a newspaper ad or a billboard. However, these days, people look for their nearest resources ONLINE! So, make sure you are searchable! Also, with ranging COVID-19 cases in this pandemic, it’s important to have a virtual component to your brand.
